In the absence of regular captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul will lead India in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.
After a disheartening outcome in the recently-concluded Test series, the Indian men’s cricket team will look to turn things around when they host South Africa in a three-match ODI series, starting in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30.
Ahead of the ODI series, India have suffered massive blows as captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer have been ruled out due to injuries.
While Gujarat Titans skipper Gill suffered a neck injury in the opening Test against South Africa in Kolkata, Shreyas is yet to recover from an abdominal injury that he sustained during the Australian tour.
In the absence of regular captain Gill and vice-captain Shreyas, KL Rahul will lead the Men in Blue in the upcoming three-match ODI series.
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on modern-day greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will mark their return on home soil for the first time since February.
Earlier, Rohit emerged as India’s highest run-getter in Australia in the 50-over format. The 38-year-old amassed 202 runs in three matches at an average of 101, including one century and one fifty.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Tilak Varma, Dhruv Jurel and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the other batting options in India’s star-studded ODI squad.
Gujarat Titans star Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy are expected to play crucial roles, both with bat and ball in the forthcoming ODI series.
In the bowling department, Gujarat Titans speedster Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Kuldeep Yadav are part of India’s 15-man squad.
On the other hand, South Africa will be led by their captain Temba Bavuma.
However, the Proteas will miss the services of their Gujarat Titans pacer Kagiso Rabada, who has been ruled out due to a rib bone stress injury.
As part of the ODI schedule, the first game will be played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
Both teams will later travel to Raipur to play the second ODI scheduled at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium on Wednesday, December 3.
The three-match ODI series will conclude at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, December 6. All games will start at 1:30 PM IST.
