India have a superior head-to-head record against Australia in T20I format with 20 victories. Australia have registered 11 wins, while one game ended with no result.
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill and star all-rounder Washington Sundar will be in action when the Indian men’s cricket team lock horns with hosts Australia in a five-match T20I series, starting at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday, October 29.
India’s T20I vice-captain Gill will aim to continue their scintillating opening partnership with his flamboyant partner Abhishek Sharma at the top. The swashbuckling duo played a pivotal role in guiding the Men in Blue to the Asia Cup T20 title in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier in September.
On the other hand, Washington Sundar will look to cement his place in India’s T20I squad ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Considering the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka, our Titan Washington could emerge as a crucial member of the squad, capable of producing match-winning performances, both with his bat and right-arm off-spin.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson and Rinku Singh are the other batting options in India’s T20I squad.
Apart from Washington, the visitors have several all-round options, featuring the likes of Shivam Dube, Axar Patel and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Having rested for the recently concluded ODI series, India will receive a massive boost with the return of their bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming T20I series.
Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav will also add a lot of variety to their strong bowling line-up.
After clinching the ODI series 2-1, Australia will once again be led by Mitchell Marsh in the five-match T20I series.
Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa are the other popular names in Australia’s T20I squad.
Ahead of the T20I series, leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has also been drafted into Australia’s squad, with Adam Zampa unavailable for the start of the series due to personal reasons.
After the first T20I in Canberra, the second game will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 31, while the third T20I is scheduled to be held at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on November 2.
The two teams will later travel to Gold Coast for the fourth T20I to be played at the Bill Pippen Oval on November 6, before the series finale scheduled at the Gabba in Brisbane on November 8.
