Our captain, Shubman Gill, is back where he belongs, at the summit of the ICC Men's ODI batting rankings.
After a stellar outing in the recently concluded ODI series against England, where he amassed 188 runs in three matches, Shubman has reclaimed the No. 1 spot… moving ahead of New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell.
The achievement is another testament to his remarkable consistency and ability to deliver on the biggest stage.
Shubman's rise has been built on an incredible run in the 50-over format. In just 67 ODI appearances for India, our skipper has amassed 3,379 runs at an exceptional average of 60.33, while registering 20 half-centuries and nine centuries.
During the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023, he became the fastest batter to reach the 2,000-run milestone, achieving the feat in just 38 innings and overcoming the previous record of 40 innings held by Hashim Amla for over a decade.
That memorable year also witnessed another historic achievement. At just 23 years of age, Gill became the youngest player in ODI history to score a double century, producing a breathtaking knock of 208 off 149 deliveries to etch his name into the record books. His elegant strokeplay, composure under pressure and hunger for big scores have made him one of the finest ODI batters in world cricket.
As the leader of both Team India and Gujarat Titans, Shubman continues to set the benchmark with his performances. Whether it is leading from the front or anchoring the innings, he has consistently showcased the temperament and class that define elite cricketers.
