After losing the rain-hit first ODI in Perth, India head to Adelaide for the second match against Australia. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli will lead the charge to level the three-match series.
After a rain-hit first ODI at Perth’s Optus Stadium, where India went down by seven wickets, all eyes turn to the Adelaide Oval on October 23 for the second clash of this three-match series.
The first encounter, reduced to 26 overs per side, saw the Indian batting lineup struggle against a clinical Australian pace attack, with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Ellis making early inroads.
Despite spirited knocks from KL Rahul (38) and Axar Patel (31) and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy’s quick 19*, India managed just 136/9.
Australia however, chased the revised DLS target of 131 comfortably in 21.1 overs, with stand-in skipper Mitchell Marsh unbeaten on 46.
Now, with Australia leading 1-0, Shubman Gill’s men are determined to bounce back and level the series.
Players to watch out for
Shubman Gill: The Indian captain’s ODI debut didn’t go as planned, but Gill’s skill and composure could be crucial at Adelaide.
He has 2,785 runs in 56 ODIs at a strike rate of 99.28, including eight centuries and 15 fifties, with a top score of 208. A big knock from him could set the tone for India’s chase.
Virat Kohli: King Kohli’s record at Adelaide Oval is stellar - 1,457 runs across formats at an average of 56.03, including seven centuries. In ODIs, he has scored 244 runs in four innings at the venue, averaging 61.
Since 2008, Kohli has amassed 14,181 ODI runs at a strike rate of 93.29, including 51 centuries. Expect him to take the Australian attack to task if he finds his rhythm.
