Despite the disappointing result, we have already qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs and also remain in contention for a top-two finish with 18 points from 14 games.
It was just not our day! Our Titans put up a valiant show in our final Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 league game at the Narendra Modi Stadium but went down to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday.
Our bowlers picked up early wickets, however, the Super Kings went on to post 230/5 in their 20 overs after electing to bat first.
In reply, Sai Sudharsan’s impressive knock of 41 off just 28 balls went in vain as we could only manage 147.
Despite the disappointing result, we have already qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs and also remain in contention for a top-two finish with 18 points from 14 games.
Prasidh provided first breakthrough
Purple Cap holder Prasidh Krishna broke a 44-run opening partnership as he dismissed Ayush Mhatre in the fourth over, courtesy of a fine catch by Mohammed Siraj.
SaiKi, Shahrukh, Rashid struck in middle overs
After suffering an early blow, Devon Conway and Urvil Patel stitched a 63-run stand for the visitors. Later in the 10th over, Sai Kishore provided us with a huge breakthrough as he removed Urvil.
Our bowlers continued to chip away with crucial wickets as Shahrukh Khan got the better of Shivam Dube, while spin wizard Rashid Khan bagged the massive scalp of Conway to reduce CSK to 156/4 in the 14th over.
Super Kings posted 230
Despite best efforts from our bowlers in the final few overs, Dewald Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja forged a 74-run stand for the fifth wicket.
In the final over, Prasidh dismissed Brevis on the final ball as the Super Giants posted 230/5. Prasidh finished his outstanding spell with figures of 2/22.
A challenging start
Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill once again got us off to a good start.
Sai Su slammed Khaleel Ahmed for the first boundary of the innings, before captain Gill hammered him in the same over to complete 500 fours in T20 cricket.
While our opening duo continued hitting some scintillating shots to amass 24 runs for the opening wicket, we lost Gill, Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford in quick succession.
Sai Su, Shahrukh stitched crucial partnership
Batting at No.5, Shahrukh Khan established a vital partnership with Sudharsan to steady our ship.
Sai Su and Shahrukh played some counter-attacking cricket as the pair brought up the team’s fifty in 7.4 overs. Meanwhile, the duo smashed Shivam Dube for 15 runs in the eighth over which kept the momentum going.
Later in the 10th over, our Titans clobbered Dube for two fours and a six to accumulate 18 runs.
However, the brilliant 55-run partnership came to an end as Shahrukh and Sudharsan departed in the following over.
Tough day in Ahmedabad
Arshad Khan showed some promise with three huge maximums, while Rahul Tewatia and Rashid also put up a valiant effort, however, we lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 147 in 18.3 overs.
While it was not how we wanted to wrap up the league stage, our Titans will look to give their best shot in the IPL 2025 playoffs as we aim to clinch our second title. Aava De!
