Our captain Shubman Gill has been appointed India’s new Test skipper and will succeed Rohit Sharma, who has retired from Test cricket in May 2025.
Our captain Shubman Gill has been named India’s new Test skipper for the upcoming five-match series in England scheduled to start on June 20.
Sai Sudharsan, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna are the other four Titans included in India’s 18-man squad, announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday.
Gill becomes India’s 37th Test captain and will succeed Rohit Sharma, who has retired from Test cricket in May 2025.
Following his magnificent run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Sudharsan has earned his maiden Test call-up.
Our consistent Titan, Sai Su, has been the leading run-scorer in IPL 2025, having amassed 638 runs in 13 matches at an average of 53.17 and a strike rate of 155.99. He has slammed one century and five fifties.
Having represented Tamil Nadu in the most recent Ranji Trophy season, Sudharsan scored 304 runs in four innings at an average of 76, including a double hundred and a fifty.
Sai Su previously finished as the second-highest run-getter for India A against England Lions at home. He accumulated 221 runs in two games at an average of 55.25.
Meanwhile, Prasidh will aim to continue his brilliant form after being the current joint-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025.
The 29-year-old right-arm pacer has already bagged 21 wickets in 13 matches for the Titans in the ongoing IPL at an economy of 8.09.
Earlier in the year, Prasidh made an impressive comeback in Test whites against Australia. He picked up six wickets in the fifth and final Test in Sydney.
Siraj and Sundar are also expected to play crucial roles in the upcoming Test series against England.
With 100 Test wickets in 36 matches, Siraj has been a key wicket-taker for India in the longest format.
On the other hand, Sundar has contributed with both bat and ball in Test cricket. The 25-year-old has scored 468 runs and claimed 25 wickets in nine Tests so far.
Led by Shubman Gill, India will face England in the first Test of the five-match series at the Headingley Cricket Ground from June 20.
The second Test will be played at Edgbaston from July 2, while the third Test will be held at the iconic Lord’s beginning on July 10.
Both India and England will later travel to Manchester for the fourth Test to be played at the Old Trafford from July 23, before concluding the Test series at the Kennington Oval in London starting on July 31.
