Shubman Gill’s first season with the Gujarat Titans was as memorable as one could’ve asked for. With 483 runs to his credit, he was our second leading run-scorer and he carried that form into TATA IPL 2023 as well, already bringing 333 runs in eight matches.

His golden run of form with the bat in international cricket this year is reflecting splendidly in the Titans blue as well, playing a crucial role in keeping us top of the table after right matches. Gill addressed the media ahead of Tuesday's match and began with a message for all the Gujaratis.

“I want to wish everyone a very happy Gujarat Divas on behalf of the Gujarat Titans, it is a privilege to play for this franchise,” Shubman said to kick-start the press conference.

Talking about his terrific run of form, he said, “You have to be consistent at this level to be successful. This year, I have more international experience so it is helping me score more runs in the TATA IPL.”

It has been a journey filled with many learnings so far in TATA IPL for Gill, who reflected on the various challenges he has faced over the years.

“I started opening in 2020, before that, I was playing across all positions. It’s been a good journey, each year has taught me something. It’s more of a mental challenge, to go out there and give your 100% until the very end. It’s all about how we switch on and switch off mentally.”

The TATA IPL is a challenging tournament with plenty of matches coming in quick succession. Beginning on Tuesday, our Titans will take the field thrice in five days, which includes one away trip to Jaipur.

“The number of matches we play, the consistency of the matches we play, it is a challenge to play 14 matches. Here, we play more matches than we do at the ODI World Cup. It’s definitely a challenge and experience helps in this case. If you’re lucky you play all the games, if not, you have to build on the experience for the next season,” Gill explained.

With three wins on the trot, the Titans have picked up great form and produced some clinical performances over the season.

“We are playing our best cricket right now, the way we played in the last few matches with the bat and ball, it’s been clinical and ruthless. Now we enter the business end of the tournament and we have to maintain that intensity,” said Gill, acknowledging the great efforts put in the team so far.
