On May 29, 2022, Gujarat Titans faced Rajasthan Royals in the final of the TATA IPL at our own Narendra Modi Stadium. To greet the home team for the first time, a record attendance turned up and cheered them on as history was created..

It was a finale to remember, with multiple noteworthy passages of play. Here’s a recap of the five best moments from a day that is etched in our memory for eternity.

Best moments from TATA IPL 2022 final

#5 Dayal - Calm and composed!

Despite conceding a few boundaries early on, youngster Yash Dayal held his nerve and provided the first breakthrough of the match for Gujarat Titans. Yashasvi Jaiswal had just hit a six, but Dayal continued with the short delivery and he got his man. Not to forget, a terrific catch at fine leg from R Sai Kishore, who had to deal with a swirling ball in the night sky.

#4 A spell for the ages from Skipper Pandya

Where do we begin with this, #TitansFAM? The Orange Cap holder Jos Buttler was on the move, skipper Sanju Samson had scored a couple of boundaries to get going, and the Royals were in commanding position before the ninth over. But skipper Hardik Pandya first bagged his counterpart Samson, before dismissing the dangerous Jos Buttler and Shimron Hetmyer to register figures of three for 17 in four overs.

On this day of days, when pressure rocketed up to the sky, the skipper led by example with the bat as well, scoring 34 crucial runs.

#3 Shami’s terrific final over

The momentum of a match is often decided by how the first innings ends and our trailblazing speedster was up for the challenge. Conceding only seven runs, Mohammad Shami finished the innings with two dot balls, which included a sensational yorker off the final delivery that demolished Riyan Parag’s stumps. Shami capped off a memorable season by getting a wicket off the last ball. Remember, he had also accounted for a wicket off the first ball of the season.

#2 Miller kills the suspense

Throughout the season, David Miller came out to bat, smashed boundaries to all parts and just made our life easy. He did the same once again on the big day to soothe our nerves. “Killer Miller” tonked a quickfire 32 not out off 19 balls, helping the Titans get within touching distance of the winning mark with two overs to spare.

#1 And Gill finishes with a bang!

Over a 100,000 people flashing their torch lights, the trophy within sight, Shubman Gill was on strike to carve his own golden moment to savour for a lifetime, and he did it in spectacular fashion. The opener remained unbeaten until the end, and finished the match with a six over fine-leg to send the Titans camp charging onto the field.

This was the only match we got to play at the Narendra Modi Stadium in 2022, #TitansFAM but we are ready to make up for it in TATA IPL 2023. Now is the time to buy your match tickets for the upcoming season, #TitansFAM, and ensure the stadium is painted blue with your presence, as we begin our title defence against Chennai Super Kings on March 31.
