The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka marked the beginning of a coach Gautam Gambhir’s stint, with the Indian team coming out on top. The Indian batters set the tone from the outset, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill laying an explosive foundation. Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant carried the momentum forward, showcasing an aggressive approach that kept the Sri Lankan bowlers on the back foot.

The Sri Lankan bowlers, however, showcased resilience, making a remarkable comeback by effectively utilising slower balls to disrupt the Indian onslaught. India ended up with a commanding 213/7.

Sri Lanka’s openers decided to pay India back in kind, with both men going hard from the start. Despite a spirited batting display, India's bowlers held their nerve and the wicket of Pathum Nissanka for 79 opened the floodgates. India ended up breezing home with a 43-run win.

The match saw some sloppy fielding from both sides, but India were slightly better in this department. A surprising highlight was Riyan Parag emerging as the leading wicket-taker, finishing with 3 for 5 in 1.2 overs.

As the teams prepare for the second T20I at the same venue, not much is expected to change in the playing XIs. However, an injury to Ravi Bishnoi during an attempt to take a catch might see him get rested. Washington Sundar could come in as another spin option, while Khaleel Ahmed could be included if the team management wants the extra pace.

India looks set to continue their aggressive and entertaining style of play, aiming to build on their success from the first match. If the first match is anything to go by, we can expect another entertaining match.
