Jason Holder, Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar were our standout performers in a thrilling four-wicket win over the Punjab Kings at Gujaratno Gadh on Sunday.
Our Titans completed a hat-trick of wins, and our sixth overall in the TATA IPL 2026 as we defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets in a thrilling clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 3.
Opting to bowl first, our Caribbean all-rounder Jason Holder stole the limelight with a four-wicket haul, while our speedsters Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada took two wickets each to help us restrict PBKS to 163/9 in their 20 overs.
Later, Sai Sudharsan lit up the Narendra Modi Stadium with a scintillating fifty, along with vital contributions from Washington Sundar (40 not out) and Jos Buttler (26) to guide us to our third successive win in the ongoing TATA IPL.
Here’s how the game panned out in front of a jam-packed crowd in Ahmedabad:
Titans’ sensational start
Our bowling spearhead Siraj, got us off to a remarkable start as he dismissed PBKS opening batter Priyansh Arya (2) and Cooper Connolly (0) in consecutive deliveries in the first over of the game.
After losing two early wickets, captain Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh stitched a partnership for the Kings.
However, our South African speedster Rabada brought us more joy as he removed Prabhsimran (15) to end a 33-run stand.
Holder bagged huge scalps in the middle overs
Holder soon joined the party as he got rid of Nehal Wadhera (0), courtesy of an outstanding catch by Buttler to reduce PBKS to 36/4 in the seventh over.
Holder continued his excellent spell as he then claimed the massive wicket of Shreyas (19).
Struggling at 47/5, Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis established a crucial partnership to resurrect PBKS’ innings. Shedge and Stoinis added 79 runs for the sixth wicket.
Our bowlers restricted PBKS to 163
Later, in the 16th over, Kagiso provided us with the much-needed breakthrough as he dismissed Shedge for 57.
In the following over, Holder bagged the huge wicket of Stoinis (40), and later cleaned up Xavier Bartlett (0) in the very next delivery to finish with figures of 4/24.
Our bowlers continued to chip away with regular wickets as our spin wizard Rashid got the better of Marco Jansen (20) to help us restrict PBKS to 163.
Sai Su, Buttler provided a strong start
In reply, Sai Sudharsan got us off to a good start by hitting Bartlett for an exquisite boundary in the opening over.
At the other end, captain Gill joined with another boundary before he departed in the second over.
Despite losing Gill, Buttler continued the momentum as he hit Marco Jansen for a glorious six, and then took on Bartlett to put the pressure back on the PBKS bowlers. Meanwhile, we raced to 58/1 in the Powerplay.
Sai Su’s match-defining fifty
However, just when we looked in control, we suffered a huge blow as Buttler fell for 26 in the ninth over.
Batting at No.4, our debutant Nishant Sindhu showed promise as he pulled Vijaykumar Vyshak for a huge six. Sai Su then hit Vyshak for a four to accumulate 14 runs in the 11th over.
Looking to up the ante, we lost another wicket as Sindhu departed for 15.
At the other end, Sai Su continued his brilliant knock as he notched up his 15th TATA IPL fifty in the 14th over.
Sai Su’s superb knock came to an end in the following over as he departed for a well-made 57.
Hat-trick of wins
With 40 needed off 31 balls, Washi took up the responsibility as he played some incredible shots under pressure, despite losing Rahul Tewatia and Holder, and later slammed a match-winning six on the penultimate delivery of the game to guide us to a brilliant four-wicket win in the end.
Having added two important points to our tally, we are placed fifth on the TATA IPL 2026 standings with 12 points from 10 games.
