Chasing a target of 248, our captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a scintillating knock of 85, along with brilliant fifties from Jos Buttler (57) and Sai Sudharsan (53 not out), however, it wasn’t enough as we fell short by 29 runs in the end.

Earlier, despite best efforts from our bowlers, KKR posted 247/2 in their 20 overs, courtesy half-centuries from Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green.

Here’s how the match panned out at the iconic Eden Gardens:

Miyan broke the opening partnership

Our bowling spearhead Siraj continued his impressive form as he sent Ajinkya Rahane’s middle stump for a walk to end KKR’s 44-run opening partnership.

Having lost an early wicket, Allen and wicketkeeper-batter Raghuvanshi stitched a partnership for the hosts to resurrect their innings.

Sai Ki bagged a huge wicket

Later, in the 12th over, our left-arm spinner Sai Kishore provided us with the much-needed breakthrough as he claimed the big wicket of in-form Allen, who departed for 93.

Sai Su & Gill provided a blistering start

Chasing a huge target, our in-form openers Sudharsan and captain Gill got us off to a flying start. Sai Su hit a couple of boundaries in the opening over, before Gill joined with a maximum off Green in the following over.

Despite Sai Su’s injury and Nishant Sindhu’s wicket, we were 56/1 at the end of the Powerplay.

Gill and Buttler forged a crucial partnership

At the other end, Gill played a captain’s knock as he hit Anukul Roy for two maximums and a four to accumulate 18 runs in the ninth over.

Gill and Buttler continued the momentum as our duo notched up a 50-run stand and also brought the team’s hundred in just 9.5 overs.

Meanwhile, our skipper Gill notched up his fifth half-century this season and his 31st overall in the TATA IPL.

Sai Su, who resumed his knock after recovering from his injury, kept us in the game as he smashed Tyagi for 21 runs in the 18th over.

While Sai Su notched up his 18th TATA IPL fifty to reclaim the Orange Cap, our five-match winning streak came to an end in a hard-fought contest. Despite the defeat, our Titans remain in strong contention for a playoff spot and are currently placed second in the standings with 16 points from 13 games.

What's next for the Titans?

Our Titans will return home and aim to quickly bounce back against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in our final league match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday, May 21.

Brief Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders 247/2 in 20 overs (Finn Allen 93, Angkrish Raghuvanshi 82*; Sai Kishore 1/38) beat Gujarat Titans 218/4 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill 85, Jos Buttler 57; Sunil Narine 2/29) by 29 runs.
