PR Sreejesh gets selected as India’s joint-flag-bearer, India’s athletic campaign ends and Aman Sehrawat earns a Bronze medal. Revisit India’s events from Day 14 of Paris 2024
The 2024 Paris Olympics is nearing its end, and it has been one of the most exhilarating sporting events in recent memory. From outstanding performances to heartbreaking moments and a few controversies, this Olympics has been filled with excitement and drama. For India, the journey has been challenging, with both highs and lows. Day 14 featured several key events and the highlight of the day was Aman Sehrawat getting a Bronze medal in wrestling.
Aman Sehrawat earns India's 6th medal
Aman Sehrawat delivered an outstanding performance in the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling event at the Paris Olympics, defeating Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz 13-5 to win the Bronze medal, marking India’s fifth Bronze and sixth overall medal at the Games. At just 21 years and 24 days old, Aman became the youngest Indian medallist in Olympic history, adding this remarkable achievement to an already impressive resume that includes being crowned the Asian Champion and winning a Bronze medal at the Asian Games earlier this year.
PR Sreejesh Selected as India’s Male Flag-Bearer
PR Sreejesh, the veteran goalkeeper of India’s men’s hockey team, has been honored as India’s male flag-bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. He will share this responsibility with shooter Manu Bhaker. Sreejesh’s selection is a fitting recognition of his stellar contributions to Indian hockey. At this Olympics, he played a crucial role in securing a Bronze medal for India, adding to his previous Bronze from the Tokyo Olympics.
The 36-year-old had already announced that these Games would be his last, making this selection a perfect farewell gesture. His remarkable career, spanning over two decades, has earned him accolades and admiration from fans and peers alike. Indian Olympic Association President Dr. PT Usha praised Sreejesh, saying, “Sreejesh has admirably served Indian hockey in particular and Indian sport in general for over two decades.” This honor reflects not just his achievements at the Olympics, but his enduring legacy in Indian sports.
India’s athletics campaign at the Paris Olympics has come to a close, with both the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams falling short of making it to the finals.
The men’s team, comprising Amoj Jacob, Rajesh Ramesh, Muhammed Ajmal, and Muhammed Anas, clocked a time of 3:00.58 in the first round. They finished fourth in heat 2 and placed tenth overall, missing out on a spot in the final.
The women’s team, featuring Jyothika Sri Dandi, Machettira Raju Poovamma, Vithya Ramraj, and Subha Venkatesan, recorded a time of 3:32.51 in their first round. They finished eighth in their heat and 15th overall, which was not enough to advance to the final. Among the runners, Jyothika Sri Dandi stood out, clocking the fastest time of 51.30 seconds.

Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar slip
Indian golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar faced a challenging third day in the Women’s Golf event at the Paris Olympics. Aditi, who was positioned at T14 at the end of Day 2, saw her rank slip to T40 by the end of Day 3, with a total score of 6-over 222. Similarly, Diksha Dagar, also at T14 after Day 2, dropped to T42 with a total of 7-over 223.
Both golfers will need to make up a significant gap of 15 strokes in the fourth round to keep their hopes for a medal alive.
While some of the results were disappointing, the experience gained by the athletes will be invaluable for future competitions. India’s athletes have shown resilience and determination, and the nation will look forward to even stronger performances in the years to come.
