Our South African big-hitter David Miller returned this season with a bang, providing a match-winning 31 not out off 18 balls to help Gujarat Titans sail through against Delhi Capitals. One of our most pivotal players last season, Miller lauded all the individuals who have been stepping up in different matches.

Against Chennai Super Kings in our opening match, we had our usual stalwarts in Rashid Khan, Mohammad Shami and Shubman Gill doing bulk of the damage. In the next match, youngster Sai Sudharsan stepped up with a half-century in the run chase, helping us win yet another match while batting second.

“Everyone is contributing in different matches. Even last season, there wasn’t one player who was being relied upon and consistently, we had new players chipping in with big contributions,” Miller said in the press conference on Saturday.

“I think to win the tournament, you need that. Everyone is in a really good space and working really hard. So I’m really looking forward to how the season pans out.”

Talking about his return to the Titans camp, Miller said, “It’s been a good start so far. The environment seems very much the same from last year, everyone is training really hard. It’s just great to be part of the setup once again.”

We face the Kolkata Knight Riders next up, who registered a big win in their last fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Miller explained that the team has got their plans sorted ahead to tackle them.

“Between captain and coach, they got their plans cut out (for the opposition). KKR are a strong team, they have some mystery bowlers and in terms of preparation, we are doing everything we can to keep ourselves ready,” Miller explained.

Talking about the Impact Player rule, Miller said. “We’ll see how it goes, so far, every team is in the same position and it has worked well so far. It gives extra strength to the team, the option to add an extra batter or a bowler. We’ll keep assessing how to make better use of the facility as the tournament goes on.”

The Titans will be in action on Sunday in our first afternoon match of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders, at our own Narendra Modi Stadium.
