It’s a rivalry that goes beyond the field. Dhokla vs Vada pav, Wankhede vs Narendra Modi stadium, the Statue of Unity vs the Gateway of India. The mighty Mumbai Indians, legends of the IPL, vs Gujarat Titans, the most consistent team over the past two seasons. The records justify this intensity as both teams have won 2 matches apiece. Now they will come face to face at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on March 24.

True blue Gujarat Titans fans will remember the century Skipper Shubman Gill scored in the 2023 Playoff the last time the two teams met. They may also remember the quick-fire innings by Surya Kumar Yadav and Tilak Verma that kept us on the edge of our seats. But the most iconic image from the match will be of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma shaking hands with a smile - highlighting the spirit of champions.

Team Talk

We have a different setup in our pace battery this season. The Titans FAM may be slightly disappointed that this will be the first time that Mohammad Shami won’t be seen opening our bowling. But the trio of Umesh Yadav, Spencer Johnson, and Sushant Mishra pack quite a punch. We also have the fiery Sandeep Warrier in our ranks for that extra oomph of pace. Both sides have a strong pace lineup so fans may get to witness a stump or two being broken.

Let’s not forget our two trump cards - Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma, who bagged 27 wickets apiece last season. One is a magician and the other a tactician, and we couldn’t ask for a better combination.

The young and dynamic Captain Gill will be complemented by a bank of experience in the batting department in the form of Wriddhiman Saha, Kane Williamson, and Agent Miller.

Captain Gill himself is coming in on the back of an excellent campaign last season. He got the Orange Cap with 890 runs under his belt at a terrific average of 59.33.

The last three encounters between us and the Mumbai Indians have been high-scoring thrillers with at least one team crossing the 200-run mark. So this one promises to be a treat for cricket lovers as well.

This IPL season Shubman Gill will be seen as Captain Gill for the first time and we couldn’t have asked for a better opponent in the season opener. It promises to be another nail-biting encounter but in true Titans spirit, we say - Aava De.
