It wasn’t our day in Ahmedabad. Our three-match winning streak ended in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 after we went down to Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday, April 20.

Our South African speedster Kagiso Rabada produced an outstanding spell (3/33), while our Indian pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna contributed with one scalp apiece to help us restrict MI to 199/5 in their 20 overs.

In response, Washington Sundar (26), Shahrukh Khan (17) and captain Shubman Gill (14) kept us in the run-chase, before we lost wickets at regular intervals and suffered a 99-run loss.

Despite the defeat, our Titans are well in contention for the TATA IPL 2026 playoffs spot and are currently placed sixth on the standings with six points from as many games.

Here’s how the match panned out against the Hardik Pandya-led side:

KG delivered lethal opening spell

Rabada provided us with an early breakthrough as he trapped debutant Danish Malewar (2) in front of the stumps in the second over.

Later, in the fourth over, KG bagged the huge wicket of MI’s wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock (13) at our Gujaratno Gadh.

KG continued to breathe fire in his opening spell and later produced a 152.1 kmph delivery to uproot Suryakumar Yadav’s (15) stumps to reduce the visitors to 44/3.

Skiddy shone in middle overs

After losing three early wickets, Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma stitched a partnership to resurrect MI’s innings.

However, Prasidh Krishna then broke their 52-run stand as he dismissed Naman Dhir (45), courtesy of an excellent catch by KG.

Titans restricted MI below 200

Despite best efforts from our bowlers in the final few overs, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya added 81 runs for the fifth wicket.

While Miyan Siraj later got the better of Pandya (15) in the penultimate over, Tilak’s unbeaten 101 helped MI post 199/5 in their allotted overs.

A challenging start

In reply, our batters were off to a tough start as we lost Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler early.

Meanwhile, Washington hit Hardik for three scintillating fours to put the pressure back on the bowlers.

At the other end, captain Gill looked in red-hot form as he hit Jasprit Bumrah for two glorious boundaries. However, we soon suffered a huge blow as Gill departed for 14.

The winning streak ends

Washi and Glenn Phillips then established a decent partnership before we lost both our batters in quick succession.

Batting at No.7, our flamboyant batter Shahrukh Khan hit Allah Ghazanfar for a huge six in the ninth over, while Rahul Tewatia took on Ashwani Kumar. However, we kept losing wickets at crucial intervals as Tewatia, Rashid and Shahrukh departed in a short span of time.

While KG showed some resistance in the end, we were later bowled out for 100 to succumb to our third defeat of the season.

What's next for the Titans?

After a challenging outing, our Titans will look to quickly bounce back against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, April 24.

Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 199/5 in 20 overs (Tilak Varma 101 not out, Naman Dhir 45; Kagiso Rabada 3/33) beat Gujarat Titans 100/10 in 15.5 overs (Washington Sundar 26, Shahrukh Khan 17; Ashwani Kumar 4/24) by 99 runs
