Having registered our seventh victory in TATA IPL 2025, we strengthened our position for a top-two finish that guarantees a second chance in the Playoffs.
Our Titans produced an all-round team performance to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 38 runs in the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at our fortress, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Put in to bat, captain Shubman Gill led from the front with 76 off 38 balls, along with contributions from Jos Buttler (64) and Sai Sudharsan (48) to propel us to a mammoth 224/6 in 20 overs.
Later, our bowlers picked up wickets at crucial intervals to restrict the Sunrisers to 186/6 in their allotted overs to guide us to our seventh victory in TATA IPL 2025.
With 14 points from 10 games, we have jumped to the second spot on the TATA IPL 2025 points table.
Gill, SaiSu unleash batting carnage
Captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan once again got us off to a blistering start. Sudharsan slammed Mohammad Shami for five fours to accumulate 20 runs in the third over. Meanwhile, SaiSu reclaimed the Orange Cap as he surpassed Suryakumar Yadav (475) on the list of most runs in TATA IPL 2025.
Gill then hammered Pat Cummins for two fours and one six to notch up our 50 in the fourth over.
The stylish opening duo continued hitting some exquisite shots as we raced to 82/0 to record our highest powerplay score, eclipsing our previous record of 78/0 against Lucknow Super Giants at our home in 2023.
Talking about records, consistent SaiSu became the fastest to 1,500 IPL runs, and the quickest Indian to 2,000 T20 runs.
The brilliant 87-run opening partnership came to an end in the seventh over as Sudharsan departed following a quick-fire 48.
Captain Gill smashes hat-trick of 50s
Batting at No.3, Jos Buttler announced his arrival at the crease with a massive maximum off Zeeshan Ansari. Our boss, Buttler, soon completed 4,000 runs in the TATA IPL.
At the other end, Gill continued his scintillating knock to register a hat-trick of fifties, his fifth half-century this season, and his 25th TATA IPL fifty overall.
Gill and Buttler carried on the momentum with some jaw-dropping shots to add 62 runs for the second wicket. However, we suffered a huge blow in the 13th over as our captain fell for 76. His outstanding knock was punctuated by 10 fours and two sixes.
Buttler’s half-century powers us to 224
Buttler continued the assault in the middle overs. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed Ansari for a six, and soon followed it with a boundary to record his fifty off just 31 balls in the 17th over. Buttler and Washington Sundar forged an excellent 57-run stand to put us in a commanding position before we lost our Englishman for a 37-ball 64.
In the final few overs, Shahrukh Khan, Washi and Rahul Tewatia hit a few lusty blows to help us post 224/6.
Prasidh provides early breakthrough
Defending 224, Prasidh ‘Skiddy’ Krishna bagged the massive wicket of Travis Head with the help of a stunning catch by Rashid Khan to end their 49-run opening partnership in the fifth over.
Coetzee strikes on GT debut
Our debutant Gerald Coetzee soon joined the party as he removed Ishan Kishan to claim his maiden wicket for GT and reduce the Sunrisers to 82/2 in the 10th over.
Seventh W of the season
Later in the 15th over, Ishant Sharma dismissed the dangerous Abhishek Sharma for 74 to put us in a great position.
In the following over, Prasidh picked up his second wicket of the game as he got the better of Heinrich Klaasen to complete 100 T20 wickets. With 19 wickets in 10 matches, Prasidh also reclaimed the Purple Cap as he finished his brilliant spell with figures of 4-0-19-2.
Our bowling spearhead, Mohammed Siraj, then removed Aniket Verma and Kamindu Mendis to guide us closer to victory.
We later restricted the Sunrisers in the final few overs to secure an impressive 38-run win at home.
With an aim for a top-two finish, we will look to continue the winning momentum against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Brief Scores: Gujarat Titans 224/6 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill 76, Jos Buttler 64; Jaydev Unadkat 3/35) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 186/6 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 74, Heinrich Klaasen 23; Prasidh Krishna 2/19) by 38 runs.
