Manu Bhaker is having the time of her life at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She first won a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol individual event and has now added another to her tally in the 10m air pistol team event with Sarabjot Singh. Manu has made history as the first Indian post Independence to win two medals at the same Olympics edition. She is also the first Indian overall to accomplish the feat since India gained independence.

In the team event, Manu and Sarabjot defeated South Korea’s Wonho Lee and Jin Ye Oh with a score of 16-10, securing India’s second medal at the Paris Olympics. Manu is now the first Indian shooter to win two Olympic medals. The Korean pair took the first series, but the Indian duo bounced back strongly, leading 8-2 and maintaining their lead to clinch the win.

Sarabjot Singh has become the sixth Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal. Just a few days ago, in the 10m air pistol individual event, Manu Bhaker made headlines by becoming the first Indian female shooter in 20 years to reach an Olympic final. The last Indian female shooter to achieve this feat was Suma Shirur in 2004. Prior to the 2024 Olympics, the last time India won a medal in shooting was in 2012, when Vijay Kumar won a silver medal in the Men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol and Gagan Narang won Bronze in Men’s 10 m air rifle.

This achievement by the young shooters is magnificent, and it brings hope for more success in the upcoming events.
