In a season filled with moments to remember, we continued our dominance to defeat Mumbai Indians by three wickets (DLS method) in a rain-struck IPL 2025 clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Opting to field first, we rode on an impressive bowling performance to restrict MI to 155/8 in their 20 overs.

Sai Kishore was our standout bowler with two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee and Prasidh Krishna picked up one scalp each.

Later, Shubman Gill (43), Jos Buttler (30) and Sherfane Rutherford (28) played crucial knocks, before rain interrupted play twice, and our revised target was 147 in a 19-over game.

With 15 runs needed in the final over, Rahul Tewatia, Gerald Coetzee and Arshad Khan guided us to a nail-biting win at the Wankhede.

After the pulsating victory, we have reclaimed the top spot in IPL 2025 points table with 16 points from 11 games.

Siraj, Arshad struck early

Our bowling spearhead Mohammed Siraj got us off to a great start as he dismissed MI wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton on the second ball of the game.

Left-arm pacer Arshad Khan soon joined the party as he bagged the massive wicket of Rohit Sharma in the fourth over.

GT bowlers dismantled MI’s middle-order

With MI struggling at 26/2, Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav then added a 71-run partnership for the hosts to resurrect their innings.

Later in the 11th over, Sai Kishore provided us with the much-needed breakthrough as he removed Suryakumar.

Spin wizard Rashid Khan soon got rid of Will Jacks in the following over, which brought us right back into the game.

Our bowlers continued to pick up crucial wickets as Sai Kishore dismissed Hardik Pandya, while Gerald Coetzee got the better of Tilak Varma to reduce MI to 113/6 in the 14th over.

Titans restricted MI to 155

Purple Cap holder Prasidh Krishna later added to his tally as he sent Naman Dhir back to the pavilion in the 17th over.

Despite some resistance from Corbin Bosch in the final few overs, we restricted MI to 155/8 in their 20 overs.

Captain Gill, Buttler laid the foundation

Chasing 156, captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler provided us a good start after we lost Sai Sudharsan early in the chase.

Buttler hit some exquisite shots, before Gill clobbered Pandya for a six to notch up our fifty in the eighth over.

Rutherford delivered instant impact

Buttler and Gill added 72 runs for the second wicket before our wicketkeeper-batter departed for a well-made 30 in the 12th over.

Sherfane Rutherford was drafted in as our Impact Player in place of Prasidh. Our flamboyant southpaw soon hammered Will Jacks for two fours and a maximum to accumulate 15 runs in the following over.

Rutherford continued the assault as he hammered Ashwani Kumar for a six to bring up the team's hundred before rain stopped play. With 107/2 on the board, we were eight runs ahead on DLS at that stage.

Back on top in IPL 2025

After the short rain break, Gill slammed Bumrah for a boundary, but our captain fell in the same over. We suddenly lost momentum in the chase as Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan and Rashid Khan departed in quick succession.

However, rain once again interrupted play when we needed 24 runs in the remaining two overs. Our revised target was 147 in a 19-over game, which meant we required 15 runs in one over, with Rahul Tewatia and Coetzee at the crease.

With 15 runs needed, Tewatia hit Deepak Chahar for a boundary, and then took a single. Coetzee soon clobbered Chahar for a six, and managed to rotate the strike on a no-ball. Tewatia then added another single, before Coetzee was dismissed on the penultimate delivery as we still required one run. Arshad later guided us to a thrilling victory at the Wankhede.

With 16 points from 11 games, we will aim to continue our winning streak against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday in a bid for a top-two finish.
