Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill and all-rounder Washington Sundar played significant roles in powering Team India to a 2-1 T20I series victory in Australia.
The Indian men’s cricket team continued their dominance over Australia in T20 international cricket as they clinched the recently-concluded five-match series 2-1 Down Under.
Under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav, the Men in Blue were off to a challenging start in the five-match T20I series in Australia. After the opening game at the Manuka Oval in Canberra was called off due to rain, India went down to Australia by four wickets at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
However, India bounced back emphatically as they defeated the hosts by five wickets at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart to level the series 1-1.
Later, India followed it up with a comprehensive 48-run victory over Mitchell Marsh’s side to secure an unassailable 2-1 lead.
While the pulsating five-match T20I series ended with another washout at the Gabba in Brisbane, India not only managed to bag the T20I series, but they also kept their unbeaten record intact in Australia in cricket’s shortest format.
Additionally, India registered their fourth consecutive bilateral T20I series victory over Australia since 2020.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans duo of Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar played significant roles in India’s T20I series victory against Australia Down Under.
India’s T20I vice-captain Gill was the second-highest run-getter in the recently concluded T20I series. Our skipper continued his scintillating form as he amassed 132 runs in five games at an average of 44, while also maintaining a healthy strike rate of 136.08.
After scoring a blistering 37 not out in the opening T20I, Gill hit a stylish 46 in the fourth T20I, which turned out to be a victorious one. He once again looked in sublime touch in the final T20I, racing to an unbeaten 29, including four boundaries in the third over of the game, before rain played spoilsport.
Our star all-rounder, Washington, also hogged the spotlight with his brilliant all-round performances in the T20I series.
Batting at No.6, the stylish southpaw smashed an unbeaten 49 off just 23 balls to help India chase down 187 with nine balls to spare in the fourth T20I in Hobart. Additionally, his strike rate of 203.33 was the highest by any batter in the series.
After his match-winning knock with the bat, Washington then grabbed the headlines with an outstanding bowling spell (3/3) to guide India to a thumping victory at the Carrara Oval in Gold Coast, Queensland.
Apart from Shubman and Washington, flamboyant opening batter Abhishek Sharma (163 runs), leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy and pacer Arshdeep Singh (four wickets each) were some of India’s other standout performers in the five-match T20I series.
Following a brilliant T20I series win in Australia, Shubman will soon lead India in a highly anticipated two-match Test series against South Africa, starting on November 14.
