Shubman, Hardik and Shami make it to India’s Asia Cup squad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the much-anticipated squad that will represent the nation in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. India will begin their quest for their 7th Asia Cup trophy on the 2nd of September against Pakistan in Pallekele. 

The squad is a dynamic blend of seasoned veterans, emerging talents, and players making their comeback into the national side. Rohit Sharma is set to lead the Indian team with Hardik Pandya as vice-captain.

Shubman Gill is expected to open alongside Rohit Sharma in the tournament. Both batters possess the ability to play with brutal aggression along with elegant technique. The duo's ability to capitalise in the powerplay and provide a solid foundation will be pivotal to India's campaign. Down the order, India have plenty of power-packed hitters in Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul.

Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make his ODI comeback after recovering from a back surgery while his pace compatriot, Mohammad Shami returns to the squad after being rested for the West Indies tour. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, who have 19 and 10 wickets in the Asia Cup respectively, will be looking to add to their tally in this tournament. 

Shreyas Iyer makes a comeback to the Indian squad after a lengthy absence owing to injury. Tilak Varma also gets a well-deserved call-up after consistently impressing since the TATA IPL 2023.
