With 567 runs in three Tests in July, Shubman Gill became the first male player to win the ICC Player of the Month award on four occasions.
ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER AWARD FOR OUR CAPTAIN! Shubman Gill has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025, on the back of his generational performance in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
India’s Test captain Shubman Gill led from the front with his bat and shattered multiple records against England to claim his fourth ICC Player of the Month honour from the International Cricket Council (ICC). The Gujarat Titans skipper has previously bagged the award in February this year, and in January and September, 2023.
Having racked up 567 runs in three Tests at a staggering average of 94.50, including a double century along with two further hundreds in six outings in July, Gill has scripted history as he became the first men’s player to have won the monthly award on four occasions.
Ashleigh Gardner of Australia and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews are the only female players to achieve a similar feat.
“It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July,” Gill stated after bagging the award.
“This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England.
“The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time.
“I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me during the course of this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bringing more laurels for the country,” the 25-year-old added.
In his debut series as India’s Test captain, Gill delivered record-breaking performances with the bat to help India level the pulsating five-match series 2-2 on English soil.
Gill slammed 269 in the first innings of the second Test, and followed it up with another 161 in the second innings to power India to a historic 336-run win at Edgbaston.
Having accumulated 430 runs in the match, Gill recorded the second-highest aggregate in Test cricket history, only behind Graham Gooch’s 456.
With his consistent batting performances, Gill emerged as the leading run-scorer in the series with 754 runs in five Tests at an average of 75.40, which included four centuries. He was later adjudged India’s Player of the Series.
